Renting a Home in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Lehigh and Surrounding Communities

Many people in Fort Myers, Lehigh Acres, Cape Coral, Naples, Port Charlotte, and Sarasota are finding themselves making one of the hardest decisions of their lives. Whether they should keep their current home, which may have between $50,000 to $100,000 in negative equity, or should they surrender their homes and rent for a year or two. There are many considerations which need to be resolved before making this decision.

We all know the bad things that can happen to a renter in this economy. I wrote about these issues in November of 2007 in a blog for bankruptcylawnetwork.com. However, since writing that blog consumers have educated themselves and therefore have started protecting themselves when it comes to landlord foreclosures. Just this morning I spoke with a gentleman about bankruptcy, and he will be surrendering an investment home that is $100,000 upside down. He has renters that are paying $1,000 a month in rent. He was concerned about the renters and where they would go once the home goes into foreclosure.

Renters can still make very good deals in Southwest Florida. Renters now have their pick of where they want to live and what deals they can make. There are even websites that allow renters to find out what other renters in the neighborhood or their apartment complex are paying for rent. The two companies that I found with a guick Google Search are zilpy and rentometer. As sites like zilpy and rentometer catch on, consumers will be able to arm themselves with the information that they need to make an informed decision on their about renting.
